Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling nearly 26,000 Chrysler 200 sedans in North America to repair transmissions with a defect that prevents them from being shifted into Park.

The shifter also may indicate the transmission is in Park when it isn't, according to FCA. The company blames faulty assembly work by the transmission's supplier.

The recall applies only to 2015 models equipped with V-6 engines. About 22,100 of the cars are located in the U.S., 3,600 in Canada and 200 in Mexico, according to the company.

FCA says dealers will replace the transmission if necessary. Until affected cars are checked, the company urges drivers to spply the parking brake to prevent a stopped vehicle from rolling away.
