Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 13,900 Dodge Charger police cars in the U.S. to fix a defect that could cause the front propeller shaft to detach from the vehicle.
The campaign targets pursuit cars made during the 2015-2018 model years and equipped with V-8 engines and all-wheel drive. FCA says a defective universal joint that connects the prop shaft to the drivetrain could fail. If so, the propshaft would come loose and completely separate from the car.
FCA, which reports no injuries associated with the defect, plans to begin the recall on June 20. Dealers will replace the entire front propshaft assembly.
