Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 349,700 of Dodge Journey/Fiat Freemont crossover vehicles worldwide to better anchor engine covers that could shake loose and catch fire.
The campaign affects 2011-2015 models equipped with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engines. About 40% of the vehicles are located in North America. The recall does not involve minivans with 6-cylinder engines.
FCA says the plastic cover, a cosmetic component used to neaten the appearance of the engine bay, could be jarred loose by rough roads. If the cover then touches the hot exhaust manifold, it could catch fire.
The company reports one minor injury associated with the problem. FCA says about 10% of affected vehicles are in dealer inventories.
