Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is launching three recalls to repair wiring, airbag and steering system flaws in 1.7 million trucks sold in North America.
The largest campaign involves 1.3 million Ram pickup trucks and chassis cabs built during the 2012-2014 model years. A wiring harness in the steering wheel could short-circuit and inadvertently trigger the driver's frontal airbag. Dealers will install protective wraps and caps to protect the wiring.
FCA also is calling back 193,600 of its heavy-duty Ram pickups in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to repair defectively welded steering system brackets.
Finally, FCA is preparing to recall 188,000 of its 2014-2015 model RAM 1500 Quad Cab pickup trucks after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ruled side-curtain airbags in the trucks don't comply with federal deployment standards. All affected trucks are in the U.S.
