Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is canceling the usual two-week summer shutdown at four truck and SUV plants in the U.S. and Mexico. The company's North American engine plants also will continue without a break this summer.
FCA says the decision affects its assembly plants in Detroit (Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs), Toledo (Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler SUVs) and Mexico (Ram ProMaster commercial vans and Dodge Journey crossovers).
FCA's other U.S. factories will shut down for one or two weeks in mid-July for routine maintenance and retooling for model changeovers, according to the company. The company's minivan plant in Windsor, Ont., has been idled since February for extensive retooling for next-generation minivans that will go into production at the end of May.
