FCA Adjusts Alfa Romeo Rollout, Again
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV tells analysts it will allocate fewer Alfa Romeo cars to China and more to developed markets in its bid to hike the relaunched brand’s global sales to 400,000 by 2018 from fewer than 70,000 in 2014, Automotive News Europe reports.
CEO Sergio Marchionne says the latest change in plans reflects China’s weakened demand for imported luxury vehicles. FCA is spending €5 billion ($5.5 billion) to rejuvenate the Alfa brand with as many as six new models and a push into new markets, including North America.
Marchionne also says FCA will adjust the timing and makeup of Alfa’s new-model launches by first rolling out models best-suited for the European and American markets. He tells analysts details will be announced in January.
Alfa’s current lineup—the Giulietta small sedan, MiTo minicar and 4C sports car—will be joined late this year by the Giulia midsize sedan.
