Police and hospital reports in Florida indicate an airbag inflator made by Takata Corp. exploded last month and hurled a metal fragment into the neck of a driver, who survived.

Reuters says the incident involved at 2003 model Honda Civic small car that was recalled for the defect more than 10 days after the explosion. Six deaths, all involving Honda vehicles, have been blamed on the flaw. Ten carmakers have recalled some 25 million vehicles worldwide to fix the problem.

Honda is dispatching an investigative team today to confirm the inflator exploded. The victim, who has already retained a lawyer, plans to sue.
