Extra Power, Less Weight = Special Ferrari F12

Ferrari SpA is developing an even higher output version of its 730-hp F12berlinetta supercar, Autocar reports. It says the new F12 Speciale, to be sold alongside the $323,700 standard model, could be unveiled next March at the Geneva auto show.
Special features include a souped-up 6.2-liter V-12 engine that has been tuned to produce 760 hp, up 4% from the base model, according to the U.K. enthusiast magazine.
Autocar says the increased output is coupled with a 12% reduction in mass, which will allow the car to rocket from zero to 62 mph in three seconds flat. But the car's drag coefficient is expected to be higher, which likely will make the Speciale's top speed slower than the F12's 211 mph limit.
The vehicle could be the last non-hybrid Ferrari equipped with a naturally aspirated engine, Autocar says. It notes that Ferrari's two V-8-powered models (the California T and 488 GTB) are boosted by turbochargers, and that future V-12 models are expected to be teamed with electric motors.
To handle the increased power, the F12 Speciale will get upgraded brakes, a sportier suspension and a more direct steering system, the magazine says. The car is expected receive updates to its stability system and other safety features.
The car's weight savings will come from a combination of lighter body panels, thinner windows, ultra-lightweight wheels and a stripped-down interior. Traditional standard features such as navigation systems, carpeting and sound-deadening material will be optional in the new car, Autocar says.
