Exports Boost Car Production 9% in U.K.

Stronger exports pushed car and SUV production in the U.K. to 150,100 units in November from 137,300 in the same month last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports.

Stronger exports pushed car and SUV production in the U.K. to 150,100 units in November from 137,300 in the same month last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports.

Growth in overseas shipments accounted for more than 90% of the month’s gain. Production for domestic sale rose 3% to 29,600 units.

SMMT says passenger vehicle output through the first 11 months of 2015 totaled 1.47 million vehicles, up 4%.

Separately, the trade group says production of commercial vehicles surged 25% to 8,800 units and climbed 36% to 65,100 units in January-November. The U.K. also posted a 4% gain to 209,100 in engine output. But year-to-date volume slipped 1% to 2.22 million units.
