China FAW Group Corp. has hired former Rolls-Royce Motor Cars design chief Giles Taylor to update the company’s domestic brands, including its iconic Red Flag limousine, Bloomberg News reports.
FAW developed the first Red Flag limo 60 years ago for then-Chairman Mao Zedong. When Xu Liuping took over as FAW’s chairman last year, he launched an effort to revive the Red Flag brand. Xu has said he aims to propel Red Flag’s annual sales from about 300 cars currently to 300,000 by 2025.
Taylor left Rolls-Royce in June after six years as head of design there. He will direct design activities for FAW and Red Flag brands from an office in Munich.
