Business activity in the eurozone this month reached is strongest pace since the second quarter of 2011, according to London-based Markit Economics Ltd.
The firm's monthly Eurozone PMI Composite Output Index rose from 51.5 in August to 52.1 in September, marking three consecutive months of expansion. Any number above 50 indicates growth.
Business activity in Germany climbed at its fastest rate in eight months. France posted modest growth, its first improvement since February 2012.
Markit describes the eurozone's upturn as broad, although it notes that growth in the manufacturing sector slowed in September from a 27-month high in August. Still, new orders in manufacturing rose for the third consecutive month.
