The number of unemployed workers in the eurozone rose by 60,000 to a record 19.45 million in September, according to Eurostat.

The EU statistics agency says last month's unemployment rate was unchanged from last month's upwardly revised 12.2%. But the jobless rate for workers under the age of 25 rose to 24.1% (5.6 million) from 23.6% in September.

Eurostat reports that the seasonally adjusted jobless rates within the EU last month ranged from lows of 4.9% in Austria and 5.2% in Germany to highs of 27.6% in Greece and 26.6% in Spain.
