Rules mandating that all new cars in the EU be equipped to summon aid automatically after a crash have moved closer to reality, Reuters reports.
Earlier this month the EU's 28 member states agreed on the eCall system, which would connect to the region's 112 emergency number. On Tuesday details were approved by the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.
The standard is scheduled for a final vote by the European Parliament in April and would take effect in March 2018.
