Ford Motor Co. is recalling 2011-2013 model Escape crossovers and 2012-2013 Focus ST small sedans in the U.S. to replace poorly spliced engine wiring connections, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says.

A bad splice between the engine wiring and manifold pressure sensor could send the wrong signals to the powertrain control module. If that happens, the engine would hesitate or stall.

All 133,200 of the affected vehicles are equipped with 2.0-liter engines. NHTSA says the campaign will begin next week.
