Ford Motor Co. has urged owners of 2013 model Escape crossovers not to drive their vehicles until dealers can replace a defective high-pressure fuel line that could split and cause an engine fire.

The campaign involves 11,500 vehicles, all equipped with 1.6-liter engines. Escapes with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines are not affected.

Ford, which detected the flaw at an assembly plant, says most of the recalled vehicles have not yet been delivered to customers. The company says dealers will pick up affected Escapes and provide their owners with a loaner vehicle until repairs are completed. Ford predicts the recall will be completed in less than two weeks.
