Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 182,700 Jeep Wrangler SUVs in the U.S. to repair a wiring flaw that could prevent the airbags from deploying in a frontal crash.
The callback involves 2016-2017 models, many of which have not yet been sold to customers.
FCA says that, in certain types of frontal impacts, the headlamps could rotate and pull crash sensor wires loose before they are able to trigger the airbags. When the recall begins late next month, dealers will reroute the wiring.
Separately, the company is recalling 86,000 pickups, chassis cabs and police cars in the U.S. to replace alternators that could fail and stall the engine or cause a fire. The action covers 2007-2013 models Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and heavy-duty chassis cabs, and 2011-2014 model Dodge Charger Pursuit police sedans.
