Daimler AG’s Mercedes-AMG unit plans to adopt some of the features from last year’s Project One technology demonstrator car to upcoming production models.

One of the first technologies due to make the transition will be electric turbochargers, AMG boss Tobias Moers tells Digital Trends. He didn’t specify a time frame for the feature, which helps reduce turbo lag, but notes that the technology can boost the performance of hybrid-electric vehicles.

The futuristic Project One (pictured) is powered by a Formula One-derived 1.6-liter V-6 engine with three electric motors and the eboost turbo. The combination generates 1,000 hp.

Audi AG introduced the first production vehicle with an electric turbo in 2016 with the SQ 7 SUV. Several other carmakers are developing their own systems.
