The European Commission perceives "signs of hope" that the region's economy is reviving. But it now expects the eurozone to grow only 1.1% in 2014.
The EC originally predicted next year's expansion at 1.4% but revised its forecast downward to 1.2% in May. It now expects unemployment to remain at 12.2% through 2014.
The commission forecasts the eurozone's economy will expand only 1.7% in 2015. That compares with growth for the broader EU economy of 1.4% next and 1.9% in 2015.
