For the second consecutive year, global car buyers prefer white vehicles to any other color, according to the 60th annual Global Automotive Color Popularity Report from E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co.
DuPont reports that 23% of new cars sold this year are painted white or white pearl. Black surpassed silver to take second place thanks to its increased popularity in the Asia-Pacific region followed by silver (18%) and gray (14%). The company says Asian buyers equate black vehicles with luxury and high quality.
North America's top color picks this year match global tastes.
DuPont's worldwide survey results are similar to those in the study PPG Industries released in October. The only difference is that silver edged out black for the No. 2 spot in the PPG rankings.
