Detroit has amassed 147 acres inside the city limits for an industrial park it hopes to open within the next two years.

Lear Corp. CEO Matt Simoncini tells Crain’s Detroit Business the company is studying plans to open a factory in the park, which hopes to attract at least four auto suppliers by 2017. City developers expect the first tenant to be announced next summer.

General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are supporting the development. Simoncini tells CDB the site is strategically located to easily serve every assembly plant in the region.

The proposed park is less than two miles north of downtown Detroit at the intersection of interstate highways I-94 and I-75. The area is near the headquarters of American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. and includes AAM’s former I-94 Industrial Industrial Park.
