Denso Corp. says it will spend $89 million) by March 2014 to relocate and expand its technical center in Shanghai.
Much of the investment will be used to add larger test facilities, including a wind tunnel. Denso says the expansion will help it to locally develop more market-specific products.
The new 290,600 sq-ft center will be located in an industrial park about 12 miles south of Shanghai's international airport. Denso says the facility will open in June 2013 and expand its workforce to more than 500 people by March 2016.
The tech center complements a Denso unit in Shanghai that develops software primarily for vehicle navigation systems. Denso operates 22 production facilities in China that make engine controllers, fuel injection components, starters, alternators, air-conditioning systems and navigation systems.
