Ralph Gilles, who heads Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s global design operations, posted a sketch on Instagram this week of a highly stylized version of the company’s new Pacifica minivan if it was powered by a 700-hp Hellcat V-8 engine.
The drawing, which Gilles did in crayon, shows an aggressive front fascia, hood scoops, massive wheels and a huge rear wing.
The 6.2-liter Hellcat debuted in 2015-model Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars. Earlier this month, FCA confirmed it will also offer the monster engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT by the end of 2017.
Due to launch this spring, the all-new Pacifica has been praised for bring a fresh take to styling in the traditionally sedate minivan market. However, cost and packaging issues—not to mention a serious lack of demand—make the Hellcat Pacifica no more than a creative design exercise for Gilles or, as one report joked, about as likely to see production as a 4-cylinder Viper.
At this point, a concept model at a future Specialty Equipment Market Assn. show is about the most enthusiasts could hope for the design. But, most agree, it sure looks good on paper.
