U.S. car dealers have lowered their year-on-year supply of unsold vehicles 4% to 3.75 million units, according to Automotive News.
The current inventory represents a 66-day supply, down from a 69-day stockpile in August 2017. AN says light trucks represent more than 70% of the total number of unsold vehicles available. A supply of about 60 days is considered normal in the U.S.
Inventories range from an industrywide low of 26 days for Subaru to 186 days for Fiat. Mercedes-Benz, with a 45-day supply, was the only other brand with an inventory less than 50 days, according to AN.
The newspaper says only two brands beside Fiat—Buick at 118 days and Jaguar at 102—carried inventories greater than 100 days at the beginning of August.
