Daniel Hayes, who was instrumental in turning the Detroit auto show into an international event, died Saturday at his home in Troy, Mich.
Daniel Hayes, who was instrumental in turning the Detroit auto show into an international event, died Saturday at his home in Troy, Mich. He was 84.
Hayes joined the Detroit Automobile Dealers Assn. as executive vice president in 1975. He served as general manager of the Detroit auto show from 1976 until he retired in 1993.
Hayes helped debut the North American International Auto Show in January 1989. The event has become the industry's preeminent show in the U.S.
Hayes is survived by four daughters, seven grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation is 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home in Troy. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the same location.
