Dana Inc. is developing an integrated electric axle system it plans to introduce in 2018 for electrified transit buses and city delivery vehicles.
The company already produces a similar system for electric vans and is working with unnamed carmakers on light vehicle applications. No timeframe was given for the latter.
The systems will be marketed under Dana’s new “Spicer Electrified” lineup of integrated motor, control and e-drive systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. Dana says the Spicer EV Drive for electric vans manages speed and torque from the electric motor to the wheels.
The transit bus/delivery vehicle system will feature an integrated motor and gearbox, while the light vehicle unit is described as an all-wheel-drive e-axle that will be paired with traditional front-drive hybrid systems.
