Daimler AG reports its second-quarter sales rose 8% to 822,500 units, and revenue grew 7% to €41.2 billion ($48 billion). Both results were records for the period.
Earnings before interest and taxes jumped 15% to €3.7 billion ($4.4 billion). Net profit increased 2% to €2.5 billion ($2.9 billion).
Mercedes-Benz Cars saw second-quarter sales climb 9% to a record 595,200. Gains in Europe (+6%) and China (+28%) offset a decline in the U.S. (-10%). Revenue for the unit grew 7% to €23.6 billion. EBIT surged 70% to €2.4 billion, in part because year-ago results were lowered by special charges.
Heavy-truck sales for the period advanced to 116,400 units from 108,300. Revenue advanced 3% to €9 billion. But EBIT for the Daimler Trucks unit dropped 13% to €543 million, dragged down by “customer service” activities.
Mercedes-Benz Vans’ unit sales grew 4% to a record 103,400 units in the second quarter. But revenue slipped 3% to €3.3 billion, and EBIT fell 11% to €358 million.
