Daimler AG has agreed to recall about 50,000 of its Smart ForTwo minicars in China because their accessory belt could tear and break, Reuters reports.
The news service says Daimler will recall another 4,000 Smarts in Japan for the same reason.
China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, which ordered the recall, blames the problem on vibration. Daimler tells Reuters it won't recall the same models in Europe because the condition of the belt can be checked during routine scheduled service visits.
