Daimler Will Recall Faulty Airbag Status Displays

Daimler AG plans to recall 104,700 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the U.S. to fix a flaw that indicates the passenger-side front airbags are active when they aren’t, or vice versa.
The campaign, which will begin in late January, targets a wide variety of 2018 model C-Class coupes, sedans and cabriolet cars and GLC-Class sporty crossover vehicles.
All affected vehicles are equipped with and “Audio 20” head unit. They also are loaded with software that is supposed to automatically switch off the passenger airbags when an child seat is detected in that position.
The software is flawed and may not indicate the actual status of the passenger airbag, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Daimler says the system may incorrectly illuminate the “airbag-on” or “airbag-off” lamp, or light up both at the same time.
