Daimler AG will invest about €500 million ($574 million) to construct its first factory in Poland, an engine plant in Jawor. The facility is expected to begin making 4-cylinder gasoline and diesel powerplants in 2019.

Daimler also considered locations in Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. The carmaker did not reveal details about the engines or indicate the plant’s capacity, but it says its investment is for the facility’s first stage of development.

The new factory would become Daimler’s second engine plant outside Germany, joining the company’s BBAC venture in China. The carmaker says the expansion reflects the “increasingly international orientation” of its powertrain operations.

The Polish plant will be managed by Daimler’s powertrain complex in Unterturkheim, Germany, which also will train workers for the Polish facility.
