Daimler Taps AMG Chief to Head Mercedes Sales

Ola Kaellenius, chairman of Daimler AG's Mercedes-AMG performance unit, has been appointed executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Mercedes car brand, effective Oct. 1.
Kaellenius succeeds Joachim Schmidt, 65, who is retiring after 34 years at Daimler, including four years in the sales and marketing job. The company has not yet named a replacement to run AMG.
Before taking charge of the performance group in 2010, Kaellenius was plant manager of the Mercedes assembly plant in Alabama.
During his 20-year Daimler career, the Swedish-born executive also led the brand's high-performance engine unit in the U.K., headed powertrain procurement and worked for supercar maker and Daimler partner McLaren Automotive Ltd.
