Daimler AG has announced two investment programs to update operations at German factories in Berlin and Bremen.
The company will spend €750 million to prepare the Bremen plant to make next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class models and add two unspecified new models.
Bremen is the company's second-largest Mercedes plant after Sindelfingen. The facility currently assembles C-Class sedans, coupes and wagons, along with SL and SLK sports cars, GLK crossover vehicles and E-Class coupes and cabriolets.
Daimler says it also will invest about €500 million over the next several years to transform its Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Berlin into a high-tech component powertrain facility. The factory will continue building V-6 diesel engines as it expands capacity to make transmission components, camshaft adjusters and fuel systems.
