Nissan Motor Co. and Daimler AG's Mitsubishi Fuso truck unit have signed a preliminary deal to share two truck models in the Japanese market.

Under the deal, Nissan will supply Fuso with its Atlas F24 1.5-ton truck. In return, Fuso will provide Nissan with its Canter 2-ton truck.

The companies did not say when they expect to finalize the agreement. Nor did they reveal financial details or sales goals.

The new joint supply agreement extends the partnership signed in April 2010 between Daimler and the Nissan-Renault alliance. Under that pact, Daimler's new Smart ForFour city car is sharing its platform with the Renault Twingo, and Daimler is marketing a small delivery van based on the Renault Kangoo van.
