Daimler AG has launched "customer-ready" output of its new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, a highly styled four-door crossover, at its factory in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Mercedes describes the new GLE, formerly known as the M-Class, as a vehicle that combines the driving dynamics of a sport coupe with the serenity of an SUV. The model is expected to go on sale in the U.S. in late summer. Mercedes has not revealed pricing.
The brand describes 2015 as its "year of the SUV," with updates planned for more than half its SUV/crossover lineup. Sales of Mercedes SUV/crossovers have surged 32% to 107,300 units so far this year.
