Daimler Adds Car2go Car-Share Service in Brooklyn

Daimler AG is preparing to deploy a fleet of 400 Smart minicars in Brooklyn, N.Y., through its car2go short-term rental service.

The system enables customers to pick up a car in any authorized parking spot and leave it in any other authorized spot. Car2go operates in dozens of European and North American metro areas.

Customers can use a smartphone app to locate available cars and rent them at 41 cents per minute, $15 per hour or $85 per day. Access to vehicles is gained by using the Car2go membership card. Fees include insurance, maintenance and fuel costs.

Car2go boasts about 850,000 registered members in Europe and the U.S.
