Daimler AG's commercial truck unit is introducing five new models to the Indian market, including heavy-duty mining trucks and two buses.

Daimler will produce the vehicles at its truck plant in Chennai for sale in India, Asia and Africa. The company says it is investing about $55 million to expand the facility to build about 1,500 of the special vehicles annually. The company targets output of 4,000 units by about the end of the decade.

The Indian factory opened in 2012. It makes commercial vehicles under its Fuso brand and the India-specific BharatBenz marque.

Daimler says it will market the new bus models under the Mercedes-Benz brand. The new trucks will carry the BharatBenz brand in India and Fuso name elsewhere.
