Daihatsu Motor Co.'s FX concept vehicle previews a new compact crossover/SUV model that will be sold in Asia, according to media reports. The carmaker unveiled the FX at last week's Indonesia auto show in Jakarta.

The near-production-ready concept is 150 inches long, 67 inches wide and 62 inches tall with a 97-inch wheelbase. At this size, it would fall between current A- and B-segment crossovers to compete with the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke and upcoming Renault Kwid.

The FX rides on a rear-drive platform that some media reports suggest is a modified version of the architecture Daihatsu previously used for its Terios small SUV. There also is speculation that Daihatsu parent Toyota Motor Corp. could get its own version of the FX to slot under the RAV4, which has grown substantially larger over the years.

The concept FX is fitted with a 1.2-liter engine. The vehicle also features LED headlights and taillights, daytime running lights and a hexagonal radiator grille.

In production trim, the concept's sharp edges and rear-hinged back doors likely will be dropped. The interior's futuristic dashboard also is expected to be converted into a more traditional layout.
