A French court has dismissed a union lawsuit that sought to bar PSA Peugeot Citroen's restructuring. The ruling allows the company to move ahead with its plan to shutter its Aulnay assembly plant outside Paris and eliminate 11,200 jobs in France.
The CGT and SUD unions sued to block the program. But PSA's other five unions have approved the restructuring. The company is scheduled to meet with labor officials on Monday about severance terms.
A CGT leader declares, "The fight goes on." He says workers will continue to strike at the factory in Aulnay. PSA said earlier this month that it might end work there as early as September instead of sometime next year because disruptions by protesters have reduced output to about one-fifth the usual level.
