Commercial vehicle registrations across Europe dropped to 191,500 units in March from 215,800 a year earlier, according to industry group ACEA.

Commercial vehicle registrations across Europe dropped to 191,500 units in March from 215,800 a year earlier, according to industry group ACEA. Sales in the EU fell 12% to 184,200 units.

Light truck sales for all of Europe fell 13% to 151,000 units, and demand for heavy trucks slipped 4% to 22,600 units.

Commercial vehicle sales declined in four of the region's largest national markets in March, dropping 22% to 39,200 units in the U.K., 12% to 36,300 units in France and 48% to 10,400 units in Italy. Volume was flat at 30,800 units in Germany.

In the first quarter of 2012 commercial vehicle demand slid 9% to 470,000 units.
