PSA Peugeot Citroen is studying options about the way it identifies its vehicles, Les Echos reports.

The French business newspaper says Citroen CEO Linda Jackson has ordered a study to explore a new structure for assigning names. Neither the newspaper nor Citroen has offered any details.

Citroen currently uses a letter and number to indicate a family of cars and a name to indicate a special variant the C4 Cactus, for example.

Automotive News Europe notes that sister division Peugeot changed its naming protocol two years. Peugeot continues to use a two-digit designation for a model family. But the brand has stopped using a third numeral to indicate the model's generation. Now the third number is either 1 to signify an emerging-market vehicle or 8 for a mature-market model.
