Chrysler Group LLC says it will make bonus payments of $1,750 to each to its 26,200 U.S. hourly workers on Dec. 21 about three months ahead of schedule.
Chrysler paid the first half of the $3,500 bonus in October 2011, when members of the United Auto Workers union ratified a new four-year contract. The second installment was due when the company achieved "sustainable profitability" for four consecutive quarters.
Chrysler is due to report fourth-quarter results in January. CEO Sergio Marchionne tells employees the company decided to make the payment after three quarters to recognize the "tremendous contribution" they have made to the Chrysler's revival.
