Chrysler Group LLC says it will mothball one of two engine factories in Detroit in September when the plant's 3.7-liter V-6 gasoline engine goes out of production.
The 3.7-liter engine has gradually been replaced by a more efficient 3.6-liter V-6 introduced in 2009.
The 180 workers at the Mack Avenue II facility will be offered other jobs at Chrysler, according to the company. Chrysler says the larger Mack I factory on the same site will continue to build 4.7-liter V-8 engines for the Ram 1500 fullsize pickup truck.
