An hourly employee at Chrysler Group LLC's Jefferson North SUV factory in Detroit fatally stabbed a coworker just before 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The alleged killer fled and committed suicide in a nearby park shortly thereafter, according to police. They say an unspecified ongoing dispute between the two men led up to the deadly incident.
Chrysler canceled both of the day's shifts, put the plant on lockdown and eventually released workers in small groups to leave the facility. Work is scheduled to resume there on Friday morning.
The plant, which makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs, employs nearly 3,100 people.
