State-controlled FAW has production ventures with General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen.
The party's central commission for discipline inspection, which began investigating Xu in March, declared him in "serious breach of integrity and self-discipline rules" and accused him of interfering with its investigation. Reports say he has been placed under arrest.
