GM aims to boost Cadillac sales in the country from 70,000 this year to 100,000 in 2015. Cadillac sold 182,500 cars, crossovers and SUVs in the U.S. last year.
GM expects China to become the world's largest luxury-car market in 2016.
The company's joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp. plans to open its first local Cadillac factory in China next year. The facility in Shanghai will have capacity to make 160,000 vehicles per year.
GM China President Matt Tsien tells Automotive News China the brand is getting a big overseas push from Johan de Nysschen. He quit as president of Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti luxury brand to take over as president of Cadillac in August.
Tsien notes that de Nysschen, who is keen to build Cadillac as a global luxury brand, has already visited China twice.
