Officials at Beijing's Capital Ethics Development Office sent a "serious reprimand" to the organizers of the city's auto show about the "negative social impact" of some models on display there.

It wasn't sheet metal that drew the government's ire. It was the "scantily clad" models who posed beside the vehicles. The ethics office demanded an end to the "vulgar publicity" at the show, which continues through Wednesday.

The scolding didn't stop state-run Xinhua news agency from posting a gallery of "Hot Models" on its Web site.
