General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet unit says its all-new Silverado 1500 fullsize pickup truck has best-in-class cargo volume, box depth and length at floor.

For 2019, Chevy increased cargo volume by more than 16% across its lineup, with gains for the short box (53 cu ft to 63 cut ft), standard box (62 to 72) and long box (75 to 89). This beats the latest Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 pickups by about the same margins.

Most of the Silverado’s added volume was achieved by widening the bed floor by nearly 10% across all models. In addition, the new Durabeds are made from a higher-grade steel (500 MPa vs. 340 MPa in previous models).

The new truck also boasts a segment-leading 12 fixed tie-downs and exclusive power up/down tailgate option. The strength of each tie-down has doubled to withstand 500 lbs of force before bending.

Other goodies include larger step-up cutouts to better accommodate steel-toed boots, in-bed LED lighting and a 110/120-volt power outlet. A light at the top of the rear cab is standard on all models.

The 2019 Silverado goes on sale this autumn.
