General Motors Co. is adding a performance package to its Chevrolet Suburban RST (Rally Sport Truck) fullsize SUV.

The 2019 RST model gets a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that kicks out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the base Suburban’s 5.3-liter V-8 makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft.

The larger engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation and paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission in place of the standard 6-speed unit. GM expects the combination will improve the Suburban’s fuel economy but hasn’t said by how much.

The performance package also sports an active suspension to reduce body roll and improve ride comfort. Other goodies include 22-inch alloy wheels, a Brembo brake package with six-piston front calipers and a Borla dual-side exit exhaust system.

Last year Chevy launched the Suburban RST appearance package, which includes a body-colored grille surround and door handles, plus extensive use of black trim. The same color scheme will be carried over to the RST performance package, which Chevy introduced last year on the smaller Tahoe SUV.
