The Chevrolet Camaro sport coupe and Colorado midsize pickup have been anointed 2016’s best car and truck of the year by Motor Trend.
The magazine also named the Volvo XC90 as its 2016 SUV of the Year. Selections are based on a vehicle’s advances in design, engineering, safety efficiency, value and performance.
MT’s judges praised the Volvo’s all-new chassis, efficiently powerful engine choices and stylish exterior. The crossover outscored 15 other contenders.
The Camaro won raves for its updated design, lighter construction and powertrain choices. It outscored six other finalists: the Audi TT sports car, BMW 7 Series large sedan, Honda Civic compact sedan, Mazda MX-5 Miata sports car, Mercedes-AMG GT S sport coupe and Toyota Mirai fuel-cell car.
The Colorado, which also won MT’s best-truck award for 2015, bested the Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan XD and Toyota Tacoma. The judges gushed over the Colorado’s “effortless performance” in towing, payload and driving performance and lauded the truck's new diesel option.
