Chery Automobile Co. is seeking to block Daimler AG from using “EQ” in China to identify its upcoming line of electric vehicles, Reuters reports.
In a complaint to China’s trademark office, Chery notes it has marketed a two-door EV called the eQ in China for two years. Daimler said at the Paris auto show last autumn that it plans to introduce 10 electric models under the EQ brand by 2025.
Daimler’s Generation EQ concept previews the company’s plan with a coupelike two-door crossover powered by two electric motors and a battery that can propel the all-wheel-drive car for 500 km (310 miles) per charge.
Daimler says EQ stands for “electric intelligence” and denotes a variety of connectivity services in addition to a scalable and modular EV-specific platform that will carry a broad range of vehicle styles. The company predicts at least 15% of its sales by 2025 will be all-electric vehicles.
