CCS Academic Chief Molnar Dies

Imre Molnar, the 61-year-old provost of Detroit's College for Creative Studies, died last Friday of a heart attack while bicycling in California.

Imre Molnar, the 61-year-old provost of Detroit's College for Creative Studies, died last Friday of a heart attack while bicycling in California.

Molnar joined CCS as dean in 2001 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., where he had taught industrial design, illustration and design management. He also managed that school's campus in Vevey, Switzerland.

At CCS, Molnar helped expand the college's transportation design program and add its first master of fine arts program. He also consulted on design management for such companies as BMW, Ford, NCR, Nokia and Volkswagen.

Molnar received his bachelor's degree in design from the National Art School in Sydney, Australia, and a master of fine arts degree from the Art Center College of Design. His credits before coming to CCS include head of design for outdoor clothing maker Patagonia and operations director for design consultants Hauser Inc.
